Marlene McNeill Remembered After Fatal Morning Incident At Shalom House In Portland, Maine On May 4, 2026

Marlene McNeill, 40, of Gorham, died after a morning stabbing inside Shalom House at 503 Woodford Street near Rosemont Avenue in Portland, Maine.

Police said the incident happened just before 10 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, inside the residential support facility for adults living with mental illness.

Emergency responders took McNeill to MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in critical condition, where medical teams worked to save McNeill’s life before McNeill later died from injuries.

Crews evacuated multiple residents while responders secured the building, and some residents left with help from a fire department ladder truck because of safety concerns.

Police arrested Armando Javier Negrete, 40, at the scene without incident and took Negrete to Cumberland County Jail as investigators continued their work.

Residents, staff, and the wider Portland community now mourn McNeill while memorial and funeral service details await announcement by family members.
