Kansas City Community Mourns Tadens Joseph After Fatal Delivery Vehicle Crash Near Maple Park On May 4, 2026
Kansas City mourns Tadens Joseph, a 4-year-old child who died near Maple Park on Monday evening, May 4, 2026.
The incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. around the 1800 block of East 3rd Terrace while Tadens played in a grassy area near the park.
Authorities said an Amazon delivery vehicle had finished a package drop-off and traveled westbound toward Woodland Avenue when Tadens moved into the roadway.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and pronounced Tadens dead at the scene.
Officials said the driver initially stopped, then left before officers arrived, and detectives confirmed by Tuesday afternoon that they had taken a person of interest into custody.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office continues to review the matter while a full scene reconstruction proceeds, a process officials said may take several weeks.
Amazon expressed sympathy for Tadens Joseph’s family and said it will cooperate with authorities.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas urged drivers to slow down near parks and stay alert for children in residential areas.
Memorial and funeral service details will be announced later by the family.
